This law will vary from state to state. I believe that if a cop pulls you over for it he can either cite you or give you a ticket. What the officer chooses to do probably depends on how damaged your windshield is.

Generally, you aren't allowed to drive a car with a crack in the windshield that is in the area of wiper blade coverage, or that hinders the driver's vision. You can get a fine. Exact rules vary from province to province.

It depends on the state you live in. As a rule of the thumb if a crack or the breakage interferes with your field of vision it should be replaced.

It it's a small crack where it does not inhibit your view then it is ok. However if it shields you from seeing fully you can be fined.

It all depends on the state and city you are in, seeing as how all laws are different, but most of the laws state that it is illegal.
