The guage of steel ranges from about 6 gauge(13/64 or .2031 inch) to about 35 gauge(.0078 inch). For non ferrous metals such as aluminum about 3 guage(.2294 inch) to about 35 guage(.0056 inch).

Sheet metal has various gauges. The guages determine the thickness of the metal. The thickness of a metal helps to determine for what projects that the metal can be used. The thinnest gauge metal has the lowest number, which I believe is 3. The thicker the metal is, the higher the gauge number.
