The caliber is a measure of the inside of the barrel of a gun (usually a handgun like a pistol or revolver). It is the diameter (line from side to side of a circle) of the barrel and determines what size bullet is used in the gun.

Caliber tells you the inside diameter or the tube of a gun. It can also show the length of a gun in relation to its diameter. It is usually measures in millimeters and doesn't always refer to the size of a bullet. So, think about the distance around the inside of a gun barrel and you've got the caliber.
