An appellate court is any court that hears the appeals of a trial court or another lower court. Generally, the appellate court is between the trial court, which hears the case and determines the facts, and the supreme court, which is the court of last resort.

The job of an appellate court is to rule on the accuracy of a trial court's ruling. The higher court essentially decides whether the lower court followed the law.
