Lords and ladies are NOT royalty. Rather, they have been given a rank by the Queen (or King) in power. In ages past, the title denoted control of an area of land and its central castle. Today, Lords and Ladies are part of the Peerage that serve in the governement.

Lord and Lady are hereditary titles. They are not royal titles, but titles for people in hereditarily aristocratic families in England.
