Your platy can be distressed or about to give birth. Since platys give live birth, the situation is pretty stressful for a mother fish, and some might not survive the labor. Keep her away from the other fish, if you have any, so that they do not bother her. If possible, isolate her in a birthing tank.

It could just be the onset of her eggs hatching. When a female Platy is ready to birth, males will stalk her. A platy is ready to breed at the onset of birth, males are in tune to this. Male Platys also eat frye. Whether you seperate her from the tank or leave her, she will protect her young.
