'Spinet' just means a smaller version - spinet pianos are also called 'apartment' pianos. Both upright and grand pianos come in spinet versions, where the distance from the floor to the keyboard is the same, and the height from the keyboard to the top of the piano is shortened.

A spinet is a short upright piano in that the strings are perpendicular to the floor rather than parallel (as in a grand piano). Traditional uprights are tall to accommodate the length necessary for high tone quality of bass strings. Spinets shorten the bass strings in the interest of creating a smaller and lighter piano for home use.
