It checks to see if your bones have any signs of degeneration or weakening. Degenerative/weak bones could be a sign of osteoporosis especially in women. As women age their bodies do not process calcium and vitamin D like it did when they were young and so their bones can become week and break easily.

This test tells a patient if they have osteoarthritis. The test is helpful at predicting broken bones. Women under the age of 65 that have risk factors for osteoarthritis should have this test because there is treatment available for it. All women over 65 are urged to be screened if they have risk factors or not.
