I use an old cotton T-shirt. DO NOT use Pledge or furniture polishes on the wood! I use Finger-Ease on my fretboard but do not like to get any on the body of my banjo or guitar. Let time age the finish naturally.

I use lemon oil on the fret board and car polish on the body of the guitar that works well for me.

I find that merely wiping it with a soft cloth buffs it very nicely and takes away the smudges and fingerprints. I occasionally use a spray made by Martin Guitars but I do not follow the instructions. Instead of spraying it directly on the guitar, I spray it on the cloth instead and buff the guitar with that.
