Usually, you can all your city or utility company, whoever handles your garbage pick-up, and arrange for them to be picked up on your usual trash day. You could also check for any scrap metal dealers in your area and see if they'll come get them.

If the option of taking the item to the dump is not available, I usually check with our town hall to see when the periodic appliance recycling day is scheduled.

I would post on the internet that you have them (craigslist would be a good place to do this), and either sell them very cheap or just offer them up for free to the first person who responds. Or you should donate them if there is a thrift store or salvation army near you.
