What do you do about discarding old computers?

I put mine out for trash pick up and they put a sticker on it that it is not allowed. I don't know what to do with it. It's old; no one wants it.

There are many companies that specialize in taking care of this kind of refuse. Check your local Yellow Pages. You may pay a fee. Also, most cities have regular "hazardous waste drives." These are special days when the city takes this kind of throw-away stuff. Call your city or county government for special collection days.

The easiest way for me to discard old computers is to take them to the municipal recycling center, where they will dispose of them for a small fee.

You can bring your old computer to a place that buys metals. You may also want to check the local colleges to see if they would like it donated for learning purposes.

There are many places that will take any old computer to part it out and recycle it. You can probably find local recycling areas online, and most every thrift store or goodwill will take them. Many recycling places will take them also, though sometimes for a minor fee.
