First check for any trapped food or other items along the gum line of your tooth. To ease pain and sensitivity, take an oral pain medicine (tylenol/ibuprofen), rinse mouth with warm salted water, or use a topical numbing cream. You may also consider switching to a softer tooth brush. See your dentist if sensitivity continues.

It would serve in your best interest to stay away from anything and everything that would further irritate the tooth. Overly hot, spicy, cold, acidic, crunchy, tough foods is what you should stay away from. For the time being, Sensodyne toothpaste should be used which will help strengthen your teeth.

We should find out the reason for tooth sensitivity. If there is a deep cavity then the patient has to go for a root canal or given desensitizing toothpaste.
