The usually unhealthy colors are green, grey, yellow, bright red, and black, each with different causes. Other things to look for are a pellet-like stool, mucus in the stool, liquidy stool, or very thin (like a pencil) stool. The floating is just a byproduct of eating healthy fats.

Bowels change shape and color according to the foods we eat. Floating stools may represent a diet of fatty foods as fat is not easily processed. Black or tarry stools are of great concern as they represent blood in the stool, whereas clay colored could mean gallbladder or pancreatic problems.

One rather unhealthy color for your bowels to be is white. Another thing to watch out for is if there's blood in them, that means that you could have internal bleeding and need it checked. Whether or not it's floating or not has no effect on your health.
