Tonsil and adenoid surgery is only recommended when a child has adenoids that are so enlarged that they have difficulty breathing and antibiotic treatment hasn't worked. It is one of the most common ENT (ear, nose, throat) procedures used today.
Well my boy had the surgery, they put him to sleep, put a flexible breathing tube in him, removed the tonsils and then they used a curved instrument and a mirror to locate and remove the adenoids. It was considered a simple surgery but I found it was very scary.
umm I assume you mean they used the tube to administer the anesthetic? Adenoids can be removed without the tonsils being taken out too though it is much more rare of a surgery. posted by

Usually T&A's (tonsil and adenoid) surgery is performed on kids. Statistics state that only about 2 to 3% of children actually need the procedure. Because they protect the body from nose and throat infections surgeons avoid the procedure unless it is absolutely necessary.
