What do the stars on the US flag mean?

There are thirteen stars in the upper left corner of the American flag. Each of the thirteen stars represents one of the thirteen original US colonies. The thirteen colonies were Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia.

The stars on the blue section of the United States flag stand for the 50 states in the Union. Originally, there were only enough stars to cover the number colonies, but later Congress made the decision to add stars as needed to signify each states oneness. Now the stripes are representative of the original colonies.

The white stars on the United States flag stand for each state in the union. There are currently 50, representing the 50 states in the U.S. The last time one was added was in 1960 representing Hawaii. The stripes stand for the original 13 colonies.
