The letters stand for Allen and Wright. The company was started in 1919 by a man named Roy Allen. Later in 1922, Roy Allen needed a partner to invest in the company to help it expand, so he partnered with a man named Frank Wright. Hence the company name Allen and Wright or A&W.

Hello , the term "A&W" comes from the names Roy Allen and Frank Wright. In 1922 they founded their business in Lodi , California. The inventor was Roy Allen - he run a roadside drinkstand during a parade for WWI veterans - and then he was looking for someone with money. Cheers

It was formed by combining the first letter of the last name of each of the founders. Their names Roy Allen and Frank Wright. Roy Allen first sold rootbeer in a parade-side stand in 1919. It was a new drink and a great success. He and Frank Wright formed a partnership in 1922.

Roy Allen had a root beer business in California. In 1919, he asked Frank Wright to join him as a partner in his business. They called their root beer "A&W Root Beer".

The letters A and W in A and W root beer come from combining the initials of the last names of founders Roy Allen and Frank Wright. Allen created the beverage and sold it at a parade in 1922. It was so successull that he took on a partner, Wright.

A stands for Allen and W stands for Wright. Roy Allen and Frank Wright were the founders of A&W root beer in 1919. They decided to cleverly name the company after themselves.
