If you plan to sell through an established vendor (Amazon, ABE, ebay, etc.) research listing fees, selling fees and rules regarding shipping/handling fees. Book vendors usually set a fee, so you need to know if you can package and ship for that price. Cost out supplies. Research online inventories, which are ample and drive down the cost of used books.

Several online opportunities allow a private individual to sell books. Be aware of the listing fee as well as the percentage of the sale taken by the site that allows the listing. Find out if you get paid a flat rate for shipping, and if not, what the limits are.

When you sell books, you can mail them at the cheaper "media" postage rate than the package rate. Be careful to sell signed copies for more money.

The buyers want to see the book being sold, so have a photos when selling online. Also, the buyers will want to know the condition of the book.
