What do I need to know about adjusting motorcycles for high altitudes?

I want to take a trip where there will be some very high altitudes.

Your carburetor will need smaller jets at higher altitudes. An exhaust gas analyzer can be very helpful in selecting the proper jets. If you're traveling and wish to make temporary adjustments to compensate for power loss at high altitudes it's possible to adjust for a leaner mixture, advance the timing slightly and try to keep your RPMs up.

Check your tire pressure with increasing altitudes. You may also be able to save money by using lower octane fuel.

THe bike should be runnig well. If it has fuel injection do nothing. If it's carbureted, you may need to put in smaller intake jets.

If it is a fuel injected motorcycle, you likely need to do nothing. If it is a carb bike then you will need to adjust the carbs or even rejet.

You will have to adjust the jetting of the carb's if it is a carburated model. As altitude increases there is less oxygen therefore making your bike run more lean which you would have to adjust jet sizes for. If it is fuel injected the ECM usually will adjust air/fuel ratio's appropriately.
