Consolidating does not reduce debt. Check out "Financial Peace" by Dave Ramsey for an effective way to reduce your debt and budget your funds responsibly.

It is typical for someone in debt to have several credit cards at or near maximum credit limits. This will take someone years to pay off. By consolidating bills to, say, a personal loan, interest rates are lower, and less money will be paid over the duration of the loan.

Dispute debt. Write stating you dispute the debt & request proof of debt. They have to provide proof or your debt will be void. This will also buy time.
