Question by  Mallory (155)

What do I do if a kitten is born with intestines outside his body?

My cat just had kittens and one of them is very ill, I am not sure what to do at this point.

By the time you read this, I doubt if the kit's still alive. Even if you were in a vets office, this kitten would be humanely euthanized. This would require such intensive intervention if born at a vets or a breeders, that the poor little one wouldn't be forced to survive. I'm sorry for what you had to go through.

''I'm sorry for what you had to go through.'' Not to be a hippy or anything but I believe the Cat had it harder.  add a comment

Aside from taking the animal to a veterinarian, there isn't much you can do. If the intestines are outside then there is a good chance other organs are misplaced also.

There is nothing much to do if a kitten is born with such serious condition. Don't try anything and bring him to the vet to see if there is anything he could do. If the kitten is very ill and weak be prepared as he might not survive the operation.

I would send the kitten that is born with intestines outside of his body to be investigated at The Feline Centre. But first you must consult with your veterinary surgeon.

My cat had her babies today and one was born with the organs outside of it, I thank God it wasn't alive when it was born because it would of just been too sad to watch it die.

same for my girls kit but I think almost all organs were outside(not heart). After 8 sad hrs. life he passed. I think the mother was tryin to help by restricting its breathing. Plus she wouldn't let him eat. All you can do is sadly wait for the passing

I Had five kittens born with intestines out, what a shock it was to my 13 yr old daughter because it was her cat. It was very hard to explain to her.We believe that possibly josie was still a week away and something caused premie delievery.

My cat had 3 kittens, the last had an opened stomach with its intestines outside. She was about 1 week early. The legs were also deformed. The other two are perfectly healthy... Just so sad...

Just had this happen with manx mix. Two were born with their intestines out are rumpy(no tail at all), ones that were born without the intestinal problem have stumpy tails. Manx syndrome may be the key here.

Gastroschisis. I've bred cats for almost 30 years and have had a few kittens like this. Even if born at a vets, through c-section, the rate of infection is tremendous. Plus as was said, just one problem you see, but probably others too that are not compatable with life.

This is my cats third litter. Her second kitten born was born with intestines outside. The baby is nursing, but don't think it will make it until tomorrow when I can get it to a vet after work. Never seen this before.
