Sharp toe pain, especially in your big toe could be gout. Top of toe shoe pain, could be relieve by a bandaid or a small bandage to protect your toe from your shoe, until it gets broke in. Either one of these need to be checked by your family doctor to get to the real answer.

If it's one pair of shoes, then the shoes might be the cause. Change them, or try adding heel and toe pads for cushioning. If it's every pair of shoes, you may want to get measured again, since your shoe size may have changed. If you can see something wrong (rash, broken skin etc), then consider talking to your doctor.

To get rid of toe shoe pain, tight and pointed shoes should be avoided. Also if nails are big, toe pain is invited. Choose shoes which are not too tight and have atleast 1-2 centimeter extra space near toe area.

If you are experiencing "top of toe shoe pain", I would first try a different pair of shoes. Perhaps your footwear is too tight?
