Itchy skin is usually caused by dry skin. When you give your dog a bath, you can use an oatmeal based shampoo. This should soothe the skin. You can also apply a special conditioner to the skin and coat to keep it moisturized. Benedryl can also be used, but be sure to check with your vet first.

A dogs itchy skin can be treated in several different ways. The easiest way is to bathe the dog for 5-10 minutes with Epson salts or baking soda.

Itchiness could be allergies from his food, or something in the air. A vet could help you determine why. Cortisone spray helps relieve the skin; doesn't stop the allergy.

The best solution I can give you is to bathe your dog daily with a good shampoo for dogs and their itchy skin.

Your dog may have a condition such as demodectic mange, which is common in certain breeds of dogs. If this is the case you may have to take your dog to the vet for help. They may prescribe medication as well as a medicated shampoo. If it isn't mange it could be an allergy to the food he is eating.
