Soggy, wet weather causes anthracnose spores to spread, and causes discoloration to show along the veins of leaves. Lack of water causes leaves to "scorch" around leaf edges. Verticillium wilt causes limbs to die quickly. Early leaf drop, yellow leaves, and a light spread of fungus at base under bark signifies disease.

If they are planted in alkaline soil their leaves may turn yellow with green veins. Dry weather can cause spider mite infestations. Extra moisture and excess nitrogen in the soil can lead to Fusarium or Verticillium Wilt. There are other diseases such as Tar Spot which are mostly unsightly.

These Maples get several deseases: mites cause leaf galls, Fusarium and Verticillium Wilt, fungus that spreads in cold wet weather and Tar Spots which do not damage the tree itself.
