The mule deer and the white tailed are the two most common that will be found in that part of the country and can be told apart from the color of the tail.

As a New Englander I was surprised to find that the whitetail deer is indigenous to East Texas, and there are some pretty good records for bucks taken! The red deer is NOT a local breed, but can be found there, I assume by escaping from breeding concerns. Antelope are not native to Texas but are found there.

Red Deer are common in East Texas, and there is a large population of them. They are a smaller member of the deer family and are often seen as roadkill on highways, etc. in the area. They have a hunting season for them as well in Texas where you can take 3 each year.
