Slovakia has adopted the European Union's currency, the Euro. Up until January 1, 2009, the currency that was used was the Slovak koruna. During the transition from Slovak koruna to euro between January 17 to June 30, 2009, people were allowed to exchange Slovak currency for euro currency at major banks.

As of January 1st 2009 Slovakia adopted the Euro as its national currency. This was simply so that it was easier to trade between other countries in Europe and boost the economy. Prior to this date Slovakia used to be the Slovak Koruna, but the government felt it was time for change.

Today, Slovakia is using the Euro. Before 2009, they used their own currency, the Koruna, which means "crown." Using the Euro makes life easier for people who travel in Europe.
