What could cause telephone static?

My telephone has lots of static.

It could possibly be the area you live in, it's probably a bad connection to the phone tower. Or it could be be faulty wiring from the unit outside.

Microwaves can cause a bit of static on a land line. If its a cell phone it can be from bad reception in that area. You can check your landline for loose wires, speak with your phone provider if it is too much static there could be a cross in the lines that is causing the problems

Cordless telephones can get interference from other appliances in the home. Try moving the phone to another part of the house. If the static happens regardless of the type of phone and its location, contact your telephone service provider to check your line.

The #1 cause of noise on a phone line is poor connections. Check your jacks and junctions and tighten the screws. Also corrosion on old wiring on the lines outside. Faulty phone or flaw in a computer can also cause this problem. The problem coming and going with the time of day may indicate weather conditions.
