What could cause a purple rash?

There can be a variety of things that can cause such a rash such as an infection and it would depend on what the rash looks like and how big it is in order to determine the real cause. If it does not go away then a doctor should be seen.

A rash which is purple in color is not specific to an environmental stimuli, it just happens to be the result of how the platelets clot and blood chemistry issues.

An infection called meningococcemia can cause a purple rash. More often, it is caused by a bleeding, blood cell disorder, or blood vessel disease like Reynaud's.

A purple rash could be caused by many different factors. Depending on the area of the body in which the rash is showing up it could be bedbugs, or some other type of parasite that is causing the rash. Figure out if the rash is spreading, and contact your primary care physician for help.
