What could be wrong if my Ford Windsar heater makes a thumping sound?

I only hear the thumping sound when the heater is on, not with the air conditioner.

You could have something loose inside your heater system. In order to check this you will have to remove your dash board and inspect the entire system for loose parts.

If the heater thumps is is usually something lodged in the heater fan. It could be leaves, or a small rodent. You should pull the blower motor to remove the object, and check the cabin air fliter.

There could be a couple of things wrong. If the sound is continous it could be a bad bearing in the motor. If it is intermittent it could be that something has fallen into your defrost vent and is hitting the fan blades.

In that case I would rule out the air conditioning as having to do anything with it. There could be a problem with the way the heater is creating and distributing the heat as it comes out of the device. I would have it checked on site to make sure the problem can be diagnosed correctly.

It sounds like your heater core may be going. When it starts to go it will make a thumping sound.

I would suspect the blend door. It is basically a flap in the heater box allowing the driver to change the temperature in the cabin from hot to cold. I believe the blend door motor is not stopping making the thumping noise as blend door tries to change position. Plastic gear mechanism are known to break on this model.

If your Windsar heater makes a thumping sound then you may have a bad vacuum actuator. Remember your Ac/heater are vacuum operated.

Well there could be something wrong with the heating filter of the car. In that case you'd have to get it repaired and checked from a mechanic and the part needs to be replaced.

You will need to take the car in ro have it checked out. They would know what to do for the car. It could be something serious or it could be not bad. It could have something in it making that sound, You should take it in, before it is too late.
