Is it hard to swallow all the time or just after eating? After eating is a sign of acid reflux, an inflammation of the esophagus requires an MD visit.

You could have an enlarged thyroid gland. A lack of a hormone in your pituitary can be replaced with a daily pill. It could be an allergy or infection.

This feeling could be the result of several different things; and could be rather minor or some somewhat serious. You will probably want to talk to your physician if this symptom continues. Your doctor would be the best person to assess the situation.

One possibility is that the individual could be suffering from severe anxiety or a panic attack. Anxiety can manifest itself physically by causing throat or neck muscles to tighten and spasm, resulting in the feeling of a "lump in the throat", or difficulty swallowing.
