Peeling nails could be caused by a lack of vitamins and nutrients. Make sure that your child is eating a well-balanced diet and getting enough nutrients (especially protein). Also, make sure the nails are moisturized with some type of lotion or oil.

With the H1N1 virus so prevalent, many school are now over using antibacterial hand-washes and hand wipes. These products contain large amounts of alcohol and can have a very drying effect on nails and skin.

This is not common. Nails are in many ways similar to hair. Lack of oil suluble vitamins like vitamin A,D,E and K can cause this problem. The bad skin infection also may be the cause. Please consult doctor.
