The 2001 Ram has a bad reputation for allowing moisture into the system. The moisture in turn causes the gearing to rust which promotes sticking and binding. The only proven cure is to replace the entire unit after coating in WD 40.

This can usually be anything. It is hard to diagnose a problem without seeing the actual engine of the vehicle but sometimes in the past, the Dodge Ram has been known to allow moisture into the system of the vehicle. This moisture in turn affects the gears and makes them stick and stall.

I think this is due to the oldness and continuous use of ball joint. It's cap and ball may be eroded due to non-oiling and friction.further more it also occur due to misuse or the driver is not trained.
