I would suggest you get this checked right away. It could be calcium deposit from a healed injury or it could be something more serious such as benign tumor.

It is called an occipital lymph node. It is usually caused when your immune system is trying to fight an infection in your body. The bony feeling is actually the abnormal swelling and shouldn't be worried about. If it hasn't gone down in a few days or you have a fever, you should consult a doctor immediately.

Most individuals have a bony protrusion naturally behind their ear. This is normal and not of great concern. However if this is new and has recently grown, then you should see your doctor. It could be a cyst, lesion or other growth needing attention.
