Well if its a gas dryer I would not use it until I talk to the Gas company. There will probably tell you to stop using and call a repairman.

It could be something that you have dried that has gas or oil on it but either way I suggest not using any electric leaving the area and calling a qualified repair man. Gas is always a dangerous smell and should be taken very seriously. I hope that it just a minor problem.

the oil or the gas smell coming from the dryer will cause health injuries. it may also cause fire accidents because of gas leakage. we should be carefull while using the stove, dryer or any other electrical appliances.

If you have a gas dryer, check for leaks. If the oil smell is like hot or burning oil the parts that support the drum may be off kilter causing extra pressure on other parts. Clothes that had gasoline or oil on them may not have washed well and can cause the smell. Have it checked if not the clothes.

There could be a problem with the motor of the dryer. Sometimes, when the motor is running down or is not clean, it will have a chemical smell.
