What could be causing edema in my right foot?

Being stationary for long periods of time, too much sodium in your diet, and side effects from vasodilators, calcium antagonists and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Also, more serious causes include, cirrhosis of the liver, kidney disease/damage, and congestive heart failure.

This may be due to an excess of sodium built up in your body. If you have high blood pressure, you are most likely retaining fluid. Another cause could be heart problems specifically on the right side, which can cause edema also. It could also be from ill fitting footwear.

On the mild side, things such as heat or too many salty snacks can cause feet swelling. Some swelling can be caused by strains or sprains.
