This could be a number of things. A bee sting, allergic reaction, cut and infection. They could have been chewing on something (piece of wood) and gotten a splinter in the lip area. Could potentially have gum disease. Watch to be sure the swelling doesn't get worse.

Oftentimes, swelling in a dog's mouth is caused by a tooth problem. The tooth could be impacted, crached, or even just a cavity. A vet can extract the tooth if that is what is causing the swelling. Other injuries could also cause swelling. Take the dog to the vet for analysis.

Your dog could be having an allergic reaction to something. If your dog has been vaccinated recently or has ingested something that it is mildly allergic to it could cause the swelling.
