The exact cause of plantar fibromae is not known, but trauma is a common factor. Running and climbing can cause a tear in the fascia, which can lead to a fibroma. Tendency to fibroma does seem to be genetic and are more common in people with a northern European background.

They can be caused by a genetic predisposition. They also can occur from use of certain medications, vitamins or supplements. Trauma can cause them to develop as well.

Although this is genetic, you can take precautions. The most important thing is proper foot health and foot wear. Make sure you see a foot specialist on proper foot care and a shoe specialist for properly fitting shoes. Most people never purchase the right kind of shoes. Good Luck
