The odor actually comes from the acids breaking down the food in your stomach. The smell of stronger foods may also be present.

Every Sunday by husband has corned beef hash with eggs. When he burps all you smell in the hash. I found that some foods are hard to digest and you burp and the smell comes up from the stomach.

It is most likely a combination of the two, the body reacting, but without eating the food you will not have them.
