What causes my engine to misfire?

It's been going on for about a week.

This usually means that the timing is off. It could be that your distributor cap or coil pack is going bad, your plugs or plug wires are going bad, or ignition is going bad, or something like the ECM or PCM is going bad. Lots of other possibilities also.

Possibly a fouled spark plug, especially if it's always misfiring on the same cylinder. It might also be an issue with the injectors, but I would check the plugs first.

Sounds like you need a tuneup. Replace your spark plugs, and wires. Also replace your fuel filter, and your distributor cap and rotor.

Typically as misfire is caused by a problem in the ignition system. Anything from incorrect timing to worn plugs could be the cause. Do some routine checks on the engine and see if everything is in good shape. Be sure to also look for loose or broken wires.
