A common cause of left sided lower back pain is left kidney troubles including kidney stones and infection of the kidney. Appendix problems, on the other hand, usually cause problems on the right lower side of the abdomen.

There are a few things that can cause this pain. The pain may just be non specific back pain. Kidney trouble or kidney stones can cause pain in this location. A curve in the spine could be the trouble. If the pain presists or gets worse, see your doctor for evaluation.
