The basic cause of hypercalcemia (high calcium levels) could be hyperparathyroidism which leads excessive parathormone levels causing an increase release of calcium from the bones.

High calcium levels could be cause my ingesting too much calcium, whether it is in the diet or by taking calcium supplements in high doses.
