What causes Charlie horses in your legs?

I get them a lot and need to know what causes them.

They are usually caused by over use of the muscle or dehydration and too low of salt and potassium in your body. If you work your legs very hard, this is probably why. Make sure to drink lots of fluid and to have enough salts and potassium in your diet.

I use to get those after I would go running. I heard you can get them due to muscle fatique or heavy exercising. There are other reasons for getting them.

My doctor says it's a lack of calcium. Once I started taking daily calcium supplements, I stopped getting them.

These are usually caused by lack of potasium in your body. Eating a banana every day should greatly improve the problem. It can also be caused by extended walking or standing or strenuous exercise using your legs. A known medical remedy is quinine however your doctor can no longer prescribe it; tonic water contains quinine and it can help.
