A distended stomach can be related to a couple of diseases such as liver cirrhosis, pancreatitis, diabetis, heart ailments, glumerolonephritis, cholecystitis, prostate disorders or urinary disorders. It can also be that you just have indigestion and gas. Usually eating too fast or tough meat causes a distended stomach. If this happens often I suggest you see a doctor.

The stomach itself will only distend if it is full of food or liquid. The abdominal cavity often will distend if fluid accumulates in the peritoneal cavity.
