The original Hebrew scriptures (Old Testament) were first passed down in an oral tradition and later written on parchment scrolls which were copied by hand as they are today. The Gospels combine oral sources, each for a particular audience. The letters of Paul, Peter, and John were written in the first century. The New Testament was written in Greek.

They are the original form of the holy word, before all the translations we are familiar with today. The original scriptures date back thousands of years and held as sacred.

The Hebrew Bible (or Old Testament) was written in Hebrew, though a few parts are written in Aramaic. The New Testament was written in Greek, though Jesus spoke Aramaic.

What scriptures depends on what religion. The Jewish Torah constitutes what became the Old Testament of the Christian Bible, and those are written in Hebrew and proven from the Dead Sea Scrolls to have been unchanged for 3000 years. The oldest New Testament sections are known to be about 1900 years old.
