This condition is normally revealed in a CAT scan and is not a serious problem unless you are showing symptoms of a problem, such as pain in the liver area (below the rib cage on the right side of your body). Absent such symptoms, there's no need to be alarmed.

Dilatation of these ducts can be seem on an ultrasound. The extrahepatic bile duct is located just outside the liver. Dilatation of these ducts could be an indication of a problem. Your doctor will run test including a sonogram to determine what might be causing your issues. It may be stones or something more seriuos.
