Temporomandibular Joint disorder or TMJ can be a slow cause of hearing loss. The mandible moving irregularly can cause bone chips to form which may cause nerve damage if they come in contact with the nerve fibers. The joint is very close to the inner ear and any damage too the joint can have a direct effect on hearing.

Hearing loss is generally not caused by problems with the mandible. An audiologist certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)can provide him with more specific information related to his particular condition.

I have knowledge about TMJ but no knowledge about mandibular related hearing loss. I would presume that mandibular disease would affect the bone in the inner ear.

I believe this is considered one of the less know causes of hearing loss. It is called Temporomandibular Joint Disorder. One of the main causes of this is too much gum chewing. Also, head trauma and extreme dental work.

Mandible is bone guarding the hearing organ, the auditory canal. In case of any abnormalities occuring in the mandible would lead to affect the sense organ, namely the hear power and the result would be the hearing loss. As the bone is also very near to ears it would surely have an effect on hearing power.
