Cell phone signals are picked up in sites called cell sites. This is where antennas and electronic communications are placed for a network to be created. A cell signal is picked up easier in urban areas, and the higher up you are the easier it will be to find coverage. It is difficult to pick up a signal underground.

To start each cell service provider uses different networks. The use tower to broadcast signals. The closer you are to one of their tower the better the signal. The signal will also be stronger if you have a clear line of sight.Sometimes if I flip my cell phone upside down I will get a better signal.

Sometimes I feel like if I flip my cell phone upside down I will get a better signal. When I am in a place with horrible or no signal I find it helpful to change the elevation of the cell phone to help increase the chance of getting a proper signal.
