What can you tell me about a cockatiel molting?

I'm not sure what's normal.

A healthy cockatiel will usually molt 2-3 times a year. It usually takes around a 10 weeks for all the new feathers to grow in (one new feather growing in may take up to a week!) Sometimes this comes along with behavior changes so do not be startled by that!

Cockatiels lose their feathers 2 or 3 times a year. The first time this happens is when the bird is between 6 months and a year old. The whole process takes up to 10 weeks and the time for an individual feather to grow back is usually about 8 weeks.

Cockatiels vary in how they molt. They all should molt either once or twice a year. Some will lose all their larger feathers and be covered in down looking feathers. Sometimes the only way to know is to see feathers in the cage.
