Carpet to tile transitions can be pulled off in a variety of ways. Most involve installing an 'L' shaped metal end plate under the tile edge and along the outside edge of the tile. If the tile and carpet are not at the same level you can use a wood, marble or vinyl threshold to complete the transition.

Now there a different kinds...such as if your were going from stretched carpet to ceramic tile you would install a metal track in between the two and rubber mallet a vinyl insert in. If you were going from glue down carpet to vct tile u would more commonly use a C A T(carpet to anything) insert.

When you pull up the carpet you need to make sure the floor is clean and smooth. Anything under the tile will eventually pop through the tile. The peel and stick squares are the easiest to use.
