You have two good dogs there, with excellent temperament qualities. In both, because of the hanging ears, you have to watch for ear infections caused by moisture.

"Bagels" are scenthound crosses; they can follow their noses into trouble, so have a fenced yard and don't let him offleash outside it. Sweet, funny, good with kids, often food-obsessed, and they can be difficult to train... possibly because they're paying more attention to scents than to you! (Shorter answer: they're the best dogs ever - I have 2! )

Since both bassets and beagles are both hounds, your dog will have a very strong urge to follow his nose all the time. Because of this, you should never let a hound off leash in an unfenced area. Once they're on the scent of something, they will not stop tracking it.
