You can take some pain medication and ice the knuckle. Make sure that you rest it and don't over exert it. If it is still swollen and painful in a few days go to the ER.

Place ice on it for the first 48 hours and after that then place warm compresses. This should help aleviate the pain and help with regaining some movement. Other than that wait a few days and the pain should go away on its own if the knuckle is not broken.

Apply ice (wrap a towel over ice) to the knuckle. If the knuckle looks dislocated, extremely painful to move, or any other concerning symptoms, see a doctor.

A sore knuckle can be the sign of a ligament strain or arthritis. It can be treated with either anti-inflamatory drugs or over the counter pain relievers.

You can soak it in a solution of epsom salts and water to halp any swelling that may cause pain. If you have damaged the skin an antibiotic cream is good to use and they actually make band aides cut out specifically to fit nuckles.
